At the heart of The Wailing Ossuary lies an ancient ritual summoning pentacle surrounded by laughing skulls. They challenge brave metalheads to lead five mighty musicians in an epic performance to try to conjure a monster of metal.

Each week we recommend an album and one of the five champions of metal for your supergroup. Then we reveal the terrible entity whose powers you will inherit, for better or worse. Good luck…

The Chorus

While it’s difficult to choose just one album from Magica’s high-quality catalogue, Lightseeker is perfect for your very first ritual. From the bewitching vocals of Bittersweet Nightshade, through the evocative storytelling of Witch's Broom, to the duelling melodies of The Living Grimoire, the tracks all pack a distinctive metal crunch. It’s very easy to stick your headphones on and lose yourself in a rich, fantasy world and so this album should inspire you well as you assemble your five metal champions.

The Champion - IV

Rocky Gray is a metal drumming machine perhaps best known for his work with Evanescence but he could actually fill any position around our ancient pentacle. Currently an accomplished composer, he has performed vocals, bass and lead guitar in several major metal bands including supergroup Solus Deus. However for maximum summoning power we’d recommend arming him with his signature drum kit and fuelling him with an endless supply of cheeseburgers similar to what we saw during the Anywhere But Home tour documentary.

The Curse

You’ve bound the powers of Medusa, the prime Gorgon. Unparalleled poise and stage presence crowned with hair that head-bangs independently of you. You have finally become the ultimate lead vocalist of the world’s mightiest, most unstoppable metal band. Unfortunately all of your fans turn to stone whenever they come to see you, which is pretty terrible for building a following, so the rest of the band had a vote and they’ve relegated you to performing from behind a curtain. It's lonely at the top.
