Chapter XIX
A full, fiery moon hung in the sky last week and there’s only one album appropriate to mark the occasion and the end of Summer. After this chapter we’ll be taking a short break for a month but don't worry, we’ll be back before you know it!
The Chorus
Santos-born Shadowside have been touring internationally since 2001 and have shared stages with some of the biggest names in the industry. The Brazilian band’s 2011 record Inner Monster Out showcases their unique, cohesive blend of the power and thrash subgenres. Opening with an enticing falling harmonic melody on Gag Order, the album quickly spins into gear before driving into the alternating time signatures of Habitchual. Fast dual drums and syncopated riffs are matched by incredibly dynamic vocals. The title track tops everything off by layering in a series of well-known guest artists to really showcase what this band can do. We can't think of a more powerful album for this ritual.
The Champion - III
Paulo Jr. is probably best known as the longest standing member of genre giants Sepultura but he’s also played with Cultura Tres and The Unabomber Files. The Belo Horizonte Bassist was gifted his first weapon aged fifteen and has never looked back. His very particular picking technique gives him the necessary attack for the thrash, sludge and death styles he’s so known for, but really he’s a master of all. A versatile rhythm section for your supergroup, you could pair Paulo Jr with almost any other metal artist so go ahead and experiment!
The Curse
The Boitatá is the monstrous serpentine protector of Amazonian flora and fauna. Although fearsome in appearance, the wildfire snake is not inherently evil and so you may be able to bind it's attributes if you respect the forest. A burning desire to defend nature is an admirable trait and possibly even a useful one in your rise to fame. Speed, agility and ferocity are all highly sought after in metal and with these otherworldly powers maybe you'll even inspire the rest of your band to the lofty heights of the jungle. Just try not to burn yourself with your own inner fire.
